Preventive Medicine Q & A

What is preventive medicine?

Preventive medicine is an important part of routine health care, designed to give Dr. Lindsay the opportunity to evaluate and track your health from one visit to the next.

The goal of preventive medicine is to ensure optimal short and long-term health through routine physical exams. The doctor offers wellness exams for men, women, and children to identify potential medical issues that can affect your health as early as possible.

With prompt treatment, your doctor can help you achieve recovery and reduce your risk for health complications down the road.

What happens during routine wellness exams?

During your routine wellness exam, as part of your preventive health care plan, Dr. Lindsay reviews your medical history, family history, and current treatments for existing health conditions and discusses your priorities in promoting health and preventing disease.

You and Dr. Lindsay spend the time you need to discuss any changes in your health, your concerns, and any new symptoms you’ve experienced since your last visit. Dr. Lindsay performs a physical exam, evaluating all aspects of your health including:

  • Vision
  • Hearing
  • Skin health
  • Blood pressure
  • Heart and lungs
  • Neurologic status
  • Gastrointestinal function
  • Urinary function
  • Gynecologic health
  • Orthopedic function/ muscle health, flexibility, and strength
  • Mental health
  • Height and weight

Dr. Lindsay will order blood and urine tests for screening and diagnosing medical conditions and recommend other screening tests as needed based on your age, medical history, family history, and personal concerns.

What health screenings are available?

There are a number of screening tests available, and Dr. Lindsay will recommend and order the ones appropriate for you, such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High cholesterol
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Mammograms
  • Bone density tests
  • Colonoscopies
  • And more...

Willow Glen Primary Care also offers Pap smears, a screening test for women that can identify cell changes that might indicate cervical cancer.

For both adults and children, Dr. Lindsay reviews vaccinations needed to protect against contagious diseases, such as mumps, whooping cough, and HPV. The seasonal flu vaccine is given every fall while supplies last and is complimentary for Concierge patients.

In the event any new health issues are identified during your annual physical, your doctor will work closely with you on a treatment plan to prevent long-term health complications.

If you’re looking for guidance to improve your health, such as quitting smoking or improving your diet, Dr. Lindsay can also recommend resources to assist you with your goals.

If it’s been longer than a year since your last preventive exam, don’t put off an appointment any longer. Schedule a visit at Willow Glen Primary Care by calling the office or booking an appointment online today.
